CULTURAL ARTS SAFARI 2009
JULY 13-30, 2009

  • Air transportation via Royal Air Maroc, in economy class, departure from and return to JFK Airport in New York City. Flight: JFK-CASABLANCA-DAKAR-BANJUL-DAKAR-CASABLANCA-JFK.
  • Royal Air Maroc courtesy Day Room in Casablanca (Morocco).
  • Airport transfers to/from hotel throughout tour.
  • Meeting and assistance with custom formalities upon arrival in Dakar.
  • 1 night hotel accommodation at Novotel Hotel Dakar (Senegal) (July 14-15).
    Breakfast included at hotel in Dakar.
  • ½ day tour of Gorée Island from Dakar (14 July). Gorée Island stands as a reminder and memorial to the slave trade. From the 16th century to the 19th century, thousands of men, women and children were gathered on this island, locked up in cells and either died or were shipped off into slavery. Tour will visit the slave house that retains all traces of its terrible past, the historical museum and leave time to explore the island on your own.
  • Group farewell dinner in Dakar at local restaurant (28 July).
  • 14 night hotel accommodation at Sunbeach Hotel and Resort in Banjul (The Gambia) with breakfast and dinner daily (July 15-29).
  • Breakfast and dinner included daily at hotel in Banjul.
  • Special cultural program design and arranged by Baba Chuck and Curriculum Development with Dr. Davis and Gambian Educators in The Gambia including all program related ground transportation:
    • Early Morning warm-up and meditation (Atlantic Ocean Beachside) with Baba Chuck and Gambian dancers/musicians.
    • Ancestral worship memorial day.
    • Educators get together and a guided tour of the Gambia and surrounding areas.
    • Music Classes (Jola/Mandinka/Wolof).
    • Dance Classes (Jola/Mandinka/Wolof).
    • Tye dye workshops.
    • Cooking classes (Mandinka and Wolof).
    • Guided Tour of the City and surrounding areas.
    • Two days COUNCIL OF ELDERS' Conference.

Passengers are responsible for ascertaining, obtaining and having with them passports, visas and all other required documents. No refunds will be made to any passenger whose participation is limited or denied due to failure to process required documents.


Passport
A valid passport is required to travel. If you do not already have a passport, please obtain one immediately.

Visa
A Gambian visa is required to travel. A visa is a stamp inside your passport permitting entrance into a country with a stay of a specified period of time. Instructions and information will be mailed to each participant, you may call the Gambia Consulate directly and request applications, instructions and information.

US Citizens do not need a visa to enter Morocco or Senegal.  Non-US Citizens must call the Moroccan Embassy (202-462-7979) and The Senegal Embassy (202) 234-0540 for their entry requirements. Details will be mailed upon receipt of initial deposit.
